WHAT IS TABLE TRADITIONAL THAI MASSAGE ?
Traditional Thai Massage, also known as Passive Yoga, is an ancient therapy from Thailand, a dry massage with comprehensive techniques to strengthen overall well-being. This massage is delivered by using palms, knees, elbows, and feet during therapeutic treatment. Through the use of passive stretching, acupressure, and energy line to work on different body positions, this traditional massage type effectively focuses on reducing tension, balancing the energy system in the human body and enhancing the flexibility of joints and musculoskeletal systems.
WHAT IS HERBAL COMPRESS ?
At Le Spa Massage Academy, Thai Herbal compress massage is a combination of traditional Thai dry and oil massage following by herbal compression, a massage with comprehensive techniques to strengthen overall well-being.
Herbal compresses contain a blend of aromatic and therapeutic herbs (ginger, turmeric, lemongrass, kaffir lime, cinnamon, basil, borneol, camphor, salt and rice powder,) wrapped in a ball of cotton muslin, steamed to release the potent qualities of the herbs and then compressed over the body before or after massage. Herbal Compress uses heat modality to apply slightly to pain and stiffness area. The benefits of the herbal compress can help people to relieve muscle tension and reduce inflammation, lemongrass can make a good scent, reduce contusion and decrease anxiety. Also, the heat modality is the application of therapeutic heat treatment to conduct thermal energy to superficial tissues with maximum depth of penetration at 1 cm or less.
INGREDIENT AND BENEFIT OF HERBAL BALL
- Ginger – has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. The anti-inflammatory properties of ginger help to lower prostaglandin, a chemical in the body responsible for pain and inflammation.
- Turmeric – has antibacterial and antiseptic qualities. These bring a lot of benefits for inflammation, minor sunburn and bruises. It also helps to clean, calm and smooth your skin.
- Lemongrass – relieves swelling and reduces fever. It also has antioxidant properties and has a fragrant citrusy smell.
- Kaffir lime – the high dose of vitamin C in the lime strengthens the immune system and helps to clear skin irritations.
- Cinnamon – has been used to improve circulation, acting as warming stimulant for the blood and associated vessels. It also shown to be beneficial for antibacterial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory purposes.
- Basil – has found it’s special place in aromatherapy, that can help to reduce stress. It is also believed that it can relieve muscle discomfort and exhausted muscles. Basil aroma interacts with the muscles for smoothening tightened and stressed areas. The smell of Basil can soothe the senses, making the sense of smell even sharper and create alertness in the mind.
- Salt and rice powder – are also added to act as a preservative and binder.
- Other items include – camphor (oil or powder), essential oils (peppermint, eucalyptus, sandalwood or similar), orange peel and sweet basil. These also have medicinal properties but are added for the scent and aromatherapy effect.
HOW DOES THE TABLE THAI MASSAGE STRETCHING AND HERBAL COMPRESS WORK?
Stretching is a form of physical exercise in which a specific muscle or tendon is deliberately flexed or stretched. The result is a feeling of increased muscle control, flexibility and range of motion. Essentially, stretching should be done gently and slowly at all times while observing the reaction by body tension, facial expression and resistance. Do not stretch beyond the client’s level of tolerance. Stretching would gradually trigger relaxation in the muscle and release spams area as well as increase blood circulation
The herbal ball helps to relieve the pain, rejuvenate, relax and nourish the affected area.
Generally, the main herbal ingredients of most herbal compresses include Plai or Cassumunar ginger, turmeric and camphor. These herbal components have long been used solely or partly for the treatment of several inflammatory conditions in many traditional treatments. Findings from several published literature have also endorsed the anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects.
THE BENEFIT OF THAI HERBAL COMPRESS
Table Thai Massage and herbal compress combines dry and oil massage with stretching and herbal compression that can help to harmonise the body, loosen blockage and improve flexibility. This combination will truly reawaken the body’s energy flow.

FLOOR OR TABLE
Thai Traditional Massage and Herbal Compress uses equipment and courses that are designed for either floor-based mats or massage tables. While many remedial massage therapists like to work on massage tables, others may choose to work on the mattress following the traditional way. Either way has its unique benefits and limitations and students will tend to gravitate toward one or the other.
BENEFITS OF WORKING ON FLOOR MATH VS. TABLE
- Larger and more stable to work, your client has a bigger support surface on a mat than on a table
- You can use your body weight much more effectively because you can get right on top of a client.
- Much easier for massage therapists to move clients around on a floor mat such as seating position
- Massage therapists can use more body parts on a floor mat like knees and feet
- It is easier on your body to work on the floor. On the table you engage mostly your upper body. However, on the floor you can work with your entire body which is much better for massage therapists body mechanics, and it takes less effort
BENEFITS OF WORKING TABLE VS. FLOOR
- Massage therapists have a physical conditionthat makes it very difficult to move or bend on a floor mat
- No space for or small treatment room
- Easy to combine between Thai Traditional Massage and other treatment
WHAT TECHNIQUES ARE USED WITH THAI MASSAGE?
In a traditional Thai massage, practitioners use their hands, thumbs, elbows, forearms, and sometimes even their feet to reduce tension in your muscles.
Thai massage is based on the idea that energy moves through your body along predictable lines or pathways known as sen sip or 10 energy lines.
To increase the flow of energy along the sen sip or 10 energy lines, the practitioner will move your body into yoga-like positions in addition to pulling and rocking your body in various ways.
The combination of stretching, movement, and pressure is what distinguishes Thai massage from other types of massage.
Thai massage may be a good option for you if you want a more active type of massage, where you move and participate instead of lying down throughout your massage.
